Child Protection Worker

Being a child protection investigator alongside the police involves carrying out duties under Section 47 of the Children Act 1989.

Ruth is an experienced child protection social worker whose main duties are to investigate, alongside officers from the local police child protection team, allegations of significant harm about children. When the concerns are justified she convenes a child protection conference which formulates a protection plan for the child considered to be at risk. She is considered a safe pair of hands but some wondered whether she was to quick too intervene in the life of Darryl and whether outcomes for that child would have been better if another form of intervention had been taken, leaving him at home with support in his disabled father's care.
